      Writer/Editor: Rustam Bharucha
      Publisher/Place: Seagull Books, Kolkata
      Year: 1992
      Source/Accession No: NP/ 104
Description/Notes: iv. 107pg. 64 photos, Rs. 100/- Pg. 26 - (The word of Kanhailal): According to the author Kanhailal's awareness of indigenous resources began only after he had been introduced by Badal Sircar to the Psycho - physical exercises of the Euro - American theatre, This certainly proved valuable in Sircar's Theatre. Pg. 26 - In the author's opinion Kanhailal moved away from Sircar's psycho - physical exercises as their cultural values clashed with his own ethos. Pg. 31 - (1972-1974: A Production History): The creation of physical images by Kanhailal was made when the non-verbal physical idea of the Third Theatre was introduced to Manipur by Badal Sircar. Pg. 31 - Sircar's intervention was historic as it inspired the theatre movement in Manipur. Sircar staged four plays in Manipur in 1972 in a Festival. Pg. 32 - Kanhailal spent three weeks in Kolkata to study Sircar's psycho - physical exercises. Pg. 32 Sircar was assisted by Kanhailal on a Manipuri adaptation of Spartacus which was performed in a Mandap.

Pg.145 - (An Interview with Safdar Hashmi by Eugene Van Erven, 30 April to 4 May 1985): Safdar had reservations about Badal Sircar's 'Third Theatre'. Though he wrote some major plays in Bengali he had done harm to the peoples theatre movement in the country. Pg.145 - According to Safdar it is more important for adherents of Badal Sircar to do theatre in the certain way rather than to do it for a certain cause. He had created a cult and tried to glorify his own sacrifies. Pg.146 - In Safdar's opinion Badal Sircar built a personal myth around himself and he worked in Bengal with forces opposed to the left front government. Pg.146 - According to Safdar, Badal Sircar made some contribution in developing some kind of exercises for the body that are good for technique, But no one who came under his influence, was able to establish a critical relation with his work.
